May Pictures-Science Beak Challenge- the students pretended to be birds and determined which beak would be the best to gather food. They rotated through different stations with pretend food and beaks.
Word Study- The kiddos practiced their word sort by playing student/teacher and quizzing each other on the words and pattern.
Mad Libs- The students worked with partners using nouns, verbs, and adjectives to complete silly Mad Lib stories.
We also visited Mrs. Doestch to learn about Maker Modules. The first cart we had at Henking was Coding & Robotics. Together, students had the opportunity to use the inquiry/design process to discover answers to guiding questions about:
- how code makes stuff work
-what code and robots can/can't do
-how to code a robot to do something
100 Days of First Grade! The kiddos counted their 100 items and grouped them by 2s, 5s, 10s, 25s, and 50s.
Holiday Traditions Project & Holiday Jigsaw. Students learned about different holidays celebrated around the world.
The kiddos worked in groups to retell different versions of the "Gingerbread Man". Ask your child which story they wrote about. =)
The students investigated when light does or does not pass through an object. We discussed and used the words translucent, transparent, opaque and reflective.
